SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

School is not the only place to learn French! If you like to go to the theatre or to concerts, if you are a folklore fan or jazz fan, prefer watching international sports events or like to go to top discotheques or hear live music in pubs, if you like to dine well and sometimes go to the casino, be active in sports yourself or just want to bathe and stroll-Nice offers almost infinite possibilities in leisure time activities.

Nice is the ideal starting point for excursions into the region. We organize full and half day excursions. The students are taken by bus to visit the Principality of Monaco, Grasse, Cannes, St.-Paul-de-Vence,  St.-Tropez, Port-Grimaud, etc. Social activities are arranged and they offer the opportunity to make friends with others from the school, to get to know the teachers outside the classroom and to learn about recreational and cultural facilities available in Nice.

We make also arrangements for students to participate in group sport outings such as:
gorge run (canyoning), biking, hiking, walking, diving etc. Students are able to make arrangements for sports such tennis, swimming, sailing, wind-surfing, etc.

The latest direct teaching methods are applied in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere guaranteeing optimum intensity and maximum individuality. It will help the students to develop every aspect of the language skills that they will use both inside and outside the classroom. All students use materials developed by the school, including textbooks FRANÇAIS LANGUE ETRANGERE 1, 2 and 3. Materials are periodically reviewed to ensure that students have the most suitable and up-to-date books.

A special feature of our programme is the emphasis on conversational French. Students in the intensive courses have either one or two lessons in small conversation groups. Students develop their oral fluency, converting passive knowledge into active and confident command through a variety of exercises. Advanced students practice their French in discussions and debates.

 Town Information's

The city is a university city, cultural metropolis, and international holiday resort. Its mild climate and unique geographical location between the Maritime Alps and the Mediterranean Sea make it as attractive in winter as in summer. Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport is 7 km from the center of the town and, after Paris, is the second busiest in France. The old city is the heart of Nice. It is full of life. There are restaurants and cafes with nice terrace, pubs with live music, discotheques.

All the students, young and older, like to meet there in the evening for the nice atmosphere and the bustle in the streets.

Previously depending upon the Earldom of Provence then, since 1388, upon the House of Savoy, Nice became French, in 1860, and that was approved almost unanimously by its population. Nice is henceforth submitted to French common law ; the district code sets the frame for municipal action. So, in 1886, the town hall set up in its current building,  which has been, successively, a barracks, a seminary and a hospital. It is the headquarters of the Town Council, whose function is to run the town.

NICE and its area are undoubtedly the place for the opening up of art and culture. The Côte d'Azur has inspired, from time immemorial, the greatest painters, writers and musicians. It has compelled recognition of its avant-garde across the Atlantic, its museums are holding prestigious collections in edifices of renowned architecture. Nice is full of an extraordinary artistic and cultural heritage.

The gentle way of life sustains the imaginary world of artists and stimulates their creativeness. Thus Van Loo, Toulouse Lautrec, Modigliani, Dufy, Renoir, Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, or Prévert, Nietzsche, Aragon, Tolstoï, Maupassant, and musicians such as Berlioz, Bizet, Massenet have experienced a real fascination over Nice, without forgetting the numerous architects of whom the town bears the stamp.

Nice is not a provincial town as the other ones, its is a privileged city. A cultural and aesthetic atmosphere is prevailing here; it is maintained, still today, by Nucéra, Le Clézio, Arman, Yves Klein, Ben, Martial Raysse, Malaval, Viallat, César : the city is in an ever-lasting turmoil.

All of which to say that the cultural life is intense. It is punctuated by temporary exhibitions in the museums and the municipal galleries, by the programming of the theatres of which the most important is the Theatre of Nice - National Dramatic Centre. The Opera House of Nice's Theatre proposes events of great quality. On the bill, international stars will perform in concerts, ballets, recitals, lyric works. The art of living of Nice is also a cultural environment : a film theatre, libraries, municipal record and video libraries, events aimed at the population in the area, lectures the ones of the Ecole du Louvre, for example education facilities such as the Conservatoire national de région and the art schools and college and  the Mediterranean University Centre Nice is a modern city open to all artistic movements in which the population is always included. There is no doubt whatsoever about the success of Nice through the world. But, what are the reasons for it? The mildness of the climate, which is said sub-tropical? The diversity of the landscapes, the richness of the flora, the beauty of the great Mediterranean Sea?

In fact, everything is accentuated in Nice, the light is so bright that the colors are flashing. The pines are green and are happily rubbing shoulders with the blue shades of the Mediterranean Sea and the sky, the sun is highlighting the yellow tones of the flowers, the ochre sides of the houses, in a natural setting of rocks and hills : it is indeed easy to understand the fascination exerted by the Côte d'Azur on the artists, painters, writers, sculptors, musicians, who contributed to her fame and to whom the museums of Nice are paying a deserved tribute. The tourist trade was born in Nice in the eighteenth century with the winter stays of famous aristocrats, first English, than Russian and American who gave to the region a bright and fashionable way of life. Slowly, the popular touring has been developing and after the second world war, the summer season is definitely taking over the winter one. Today, the tourist industry is the first economical activity of Nice. All kind of leisure and touring are offered : green touring, sea, sportive, luxury, alpine, congress and trade tourism. The Acropolis, the Arts, Tourism and Congress Exhibition Centre is ranking among the first congress centres of the world. The continuous improvements of the infrastructures . rail, road, airport and port allow an easy access and a direct link to most of the biggest cities in the world.

The total amount of tourist accommodation is placing Nice, second town in terms of hotel, just before Paris. If the Carnival of Nice has been for a long time the major tourist event of Nice, now, there are numerous international events which are giving a rhythm to the life of the town, such as the Nice Jazz Festival, without mentioning the sportive meetings - Nikaïa, Triathlon, Semi-Marathon. In the same time, the cultural aspects are generating an intense artistic life. Although Nice may be considered as a modern town, it has not forgotten its traditions. They are celebrated through the May, the Cougourdons, the Vineyards feasts, where the gastronomy of Nice is honoured and the "niçois", the local dialect coming from the langue d' oc, the southern French is king of the day. The heritage of Nice is constantly under care, by protecting the frescos and the trompe l'oeil which are ornamenting the façades of the houses of the Old-Nice, by maintaining the activity of the Cours Saleya, where is held every day the flower, fruit and vegetable market, and the Saint-François Square with its fish market. The beauty of Nice is also due to its green spaces, 300 hectares of garden, its trees, plane trees, linden trees, bay-trees, pine and palm trees, which are lining the avenues, the fountains of the forum Masséna or the Acropolis esplanade. Nice has been classified, for over ten years, as the first town of France for its flowering and for the beauty of its gardens. Today, Nice is shown outside the competition, for outstanding merits. The pedestrian roads which are surrounding Nice allow the discovery, from various points of view of the Baie des Anges, the Angels' Bay.
