About our FRENCH Levels

Levels 1 and 2
At the elementary level, students with no knowledge or very
little knowledge of the language gain “survival” skills through
the use of audio and visual materials. With the teachers’
help, students learn to identify, describe, ask for information
and express themselves simply.
As students progress, they learn to voice their opinions,
recount experiences and read simple texts. Exercises
featuring real-life situations and conversations help students
become more comfortable in French.
Levels 3 and 4
Students learn all the essential elements of language. Audio
and video materials increase understanding. Reading longer
texts expands vocabulary and generates in-class
discussions. Group activities encourage students to express
themselves more naturally. Students learn to function
comfortably in most situations. They develop confidence in
their language environment. Students improve their
speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities.
Levels 5, 6 and 7
Advanced students polish their language abilities, learn the
finer points of grammar, and acquire a deeper knowledge of
the French language. They gain confidence in their ability to
overcome the challenges of the language through a variety of
exercises in oral and written French: debates, presentations
and discussions. Students are exposed to more
sophisticated vocabulary and idiomatic expressions. A
programme of oral and written projects challenges them to
use their skills in both classroom and community activities.

Instruction

You have 3 hours of class each morning. A full-time Programme Co-ordinator is available during class hours to provide a link between the SLA campus and the office. SLA students have classes and lunch on site. After all afternoon activities, SLA Monitors return the students to the school. The Co-ordinator is at school in the afternoon to greet the students as they return from activities. You can use the internet and e-mail in the school Student Resource Centre following afternoon activities.

At the end of the programme each day, SLA students have about 1-2 hours to use the internet or e-mail at school or spend some time with their friends exploring the city.

Homestay Accommodation

You stay in homestay. Three meals are provided daily (bag lunch during school days).

Homestay provides you with the opportunity to use your language in real-life situations. You get a first-hand look at the way Canadians live.

In Canada, it is usual that both the homestay hostess and host work outside of the home during the day. Language Adventure students are responsible for going to school and returning to homestay by themselves.

Included Activities

Designed for teenagers, Language Adventure offers a balanced blend of activities which introduce students to the city and its culture as well as providing them with many opportunities to participate in sports. Montreal is host to several festivals, artistic and cultural events. The planned schedule takes advantage of Montreal's many attractions so that you can enjoy the best summer has to offer.

Monitors supervise our young students during the day activities programme. They also act as guides on outings and as team leaders for sports.
