Capital of the European Union, Brussels has all the assets required for the smooth functioning of our endeavour. The city has acquired an international dimension which provides numerous professional and cultural opportunities.

A European centre, Brussels is characterised by the considerable diversity of its sectors of activity. Its role within the European Union has inexorably acted as a magnate, drawing numerous companies who have set up their headquarters there.

A cultural city which has been subjected to a wealth of influences, Brussels has an intense cultural life. It has always attracted writers and artists of various views, and Belgian artists contributed extensively to building its world-wide reputation . Whether architects, painters, writers or musicians, well-known personalities such as Victor Horta, René Magritte, Paul Delvaux, Hergé or Jacques Brel, attest to the cultural wealth of our city and country.

A « green » city, there are numerous parks throughout the city, which offer the visitor the opportunity for lay strolls to get away from it all. And if he is lucky, the attentive stroller may catch sight of a deer in the Soignes forest, a few kilometres from the heart of the city ...

A historical city, Brussels has been a waled city since the 10th century. A trading cross-roads since the Middle Ages, its exceptional geographical location made it the envy of many countries. The city experienced 5 centuries of foreign dominance, alternating periods of ostentation and decadence under Spanish, Austrian, French and Dutch domination, before eventually opting for independance in 1830 and putting itself forward as a liberal and progressive city.
